Founding Chapter: Chicago

Our History
Chicago has always been a hub for Black excellence, culture, and community. Our chapter reflects this rich legacy by bringing together graduates and attendees of the illustrious HBCUs across the country to share in fellowship, performance, and service.
The Chicago Chapter of the HBCU Alumni Choir was founded in 2023 by Martin Woods, following our unforgettable performance at the Chicago Bulls HBCU Night game. What began as a single performance showcasing the power of HBCU voices quickly grew into a vision: creating a space in Chicago where alums could continue to share their love of music, celebrate their heritage, and inspire the community.

Since that night, our chapter has been dedicated to carrying forward the HBCU tradition of musical excellence while building fellowship among alums and supporters across the city. Through performances, community programs, and cultural events, we honor the legacy of HBCUs and bring that spirit to Chicago’s vibrant stage.
We are proud to be one of the founding chapters of the HBCU Alumni Choir family, and we look forward to growing our impact, note by note, voice by voice.
